The Emmbrook School, Wokingham, Charity Week, October 13th - 17th 2014

We were extremely proud to be chosen as the charity supported by The Emmbrook School fundraising week this year.

Here's our Karen with the sixth formers who organised and hosted this amazing week of events which included a raffle, cake stall, talent show and 'Mr Johnson and Mr McSweeney's Extravaganza'.

We were quite taken aback by the terrific support shown by the staff and pupils who raised an incredible £2,588.51 - thank you!!

Stephen Call, Oxford Half Marathon, October 12th 2014

Huge congratulations to Ollie's cousin Stephen for completing the Oxford Half Marathon, still looking good here after 13.1 miles! A fantastic achievement and fabulous fundraising effort, smashing his target of £250 - thank you!

Finch Cruisers, Finch-to-Paris Charity Bike Ride, October 9th - 11th 2014

An enormous well done and thank you to the Finch Cruisers CC, pictured here at the start of their 3 day bike ride from Finchampstead, and at the finish under the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

They cycled an incredible 215 miles in some challenging weather conditions, and deservedly they've raised a phenomenal £6,000 so far for the 1st Finchampstead Scout Group's expedition to the Kandersteg International Scout Centre in 2016 and also for the Ollie Young Foundation.

Nick Benham, Spartan Beast, October 11th 2014

We just love the pictures of Nick Benham from his challenge in his Ollie Blues.

For most of us just completing a 20km race would be more than enough, but not for Nick - throw in 26 obstacles including swimming across a lake, carrying logs up and down hills, wading through mud and jumping fire and you have the Spartan Beast!!!!

We salute your grit and determination for completing this and for raising £410 all in aid of the foundation - thank you!

Mortimer 10k Run & Fayre, September 28th 2014

We had a beautiful sunny day and this wonderful array of scrummy bakes for the recent Mortimer 10k, it's no wonder they sold like hot cakes!! A huge thank you to all that baked for us, we had lots of lovely compliments on your tasty treats and you helped raise a fantastic £202.97.

Michael Hardy Walkers, Thames Path Challenge, September 12th 2014

An enormous thank you to the Michael Hardy Walkers who took part in the Thames Path Challenge in aid of the foundation.

Trish, Kate, Denise, Helena, Caroline, Helen and Kirsty took just over 5 hours to walk 25km along the Thames tow path from Cookham to Henley.

Well done ladies, an absolutely fantastic effort from you all and an incredible £1,700 raised for the foundation - thank you!

You've raised just shy of £200 between you all so well done and thank you!

Phillippa, August 2014

Thank you to the lovely Phillippa, pictured with her granddaughter, who chose to make a donation of £242 to the OYF rather than receive a retirement gift from her work colleagues. We are touched by your kindness and wish you a long and happy retirement from us all at the foundation.

Wokingham Paint Jam, August 23rd 2014

"If you didn't get a chance to come down and see Pistol in action at the Paint Jam yesterday, here's the absolutely breath-taking artwork of Ollie that he created. We are completely blown away." Thank you Pistol Art for raising over £1,600 and rising! Just phenomenal! x

Thank you to everyone at Event Showteam who raised a fabulous £302 at their recent Viva Variety showcase in aid of the foundation. It was an incredible show and entertained us all from start to finish.

Waitrose, July 2014

This post goes out to all you Waitrose shoppers in Wokingham who popped their green tokens into our box in July. Thanks to your support we were recently presented with a cheque for £430!

A big thank you to Brenda for taking the time to nominate OYF as one of the local charities to support and making this happen.

Here's our Simon receiving the cheque from the store manager Simon Young....spooky huh?

Chestnutters - Race for Life, July 13th 2014

Here's the 'Chestnutters' looking hot in pink today, and not just because of the weather! They were joined by 3,000 other 'pink ladies' running in memory or support of loved ones in the Race for Life at Prospect Park in Reading. Congratulations to you all.

Steven Riddex - Boyzillian! July 19th 2014

Super fundraiser Steven Riddex had strips torn off him in a fashion not unlike the 'Brazilian' players! He had a 'boyzillian' wax to raise funds for the foundation raising £300.00! Thank you Steven from us all at OYF.

Louise Cripps - Laser Roller Disco, July 5th 2014

A big thank you to Louise Cripps for organising the recent Laser Roller Disco. It was great to see so many people get their skates on to have fun and raise a fabulous £860 for the foundation. Here's a few of the young (and furry) skaters.

Year 6 Charity Week, Gorse Ride School, Wokingham, June 2014

Huge OYF thanks to Cameron, pictured here with his classmates Hannah and Tia. Cameron put us forward to be the chosen charity for the Year 6 charity week at Gorse Ride School as his younger brother James was a very good friend of Ollie. Class 6AB raised an amazing £1,000 through events they organised and ran themselves, which included a penalty shootout, teachers in the stocks, a moshi monster sale and a 15 mile cycle ride completed by Solly.

Karen Ayton, June 2014

We'd like to thank Karen Ayton for kindly donating £50 from the end of year concert she held for her music pupils at St Paul's Parish Rooms recently. Karen pictured here, 2nd from left, has held a number of concerts to raise funds for us and we thank her for her continued support.?

Hawthorns Summer Fayre, June 28th 2014

Here's the lovely Georgina having her first cuddle with her new friend 'Joey the Bear'. Thanks again for everyone's support at the Hawthorns Summer Fayre last weekend, with your help we raised a fantastic £386!

Reading University Drama Society, June 24th 2014

A huge round of applause goes out to the amazing cast and crew of the Reading University Drama Society. In just 24 hours they put on a live performance of Beauty and the Beast with the OYF benefiting from the proceeds for the 2nd year running.

Sainsbury's, June 6th 2014

Cake, balloons and goody bags are a typical sight at parties but at the one we attended at Sainsbury's in Winnersh yesterday we were also awarded with a cheque for £6,975!

A huge thank you to the Sainsbury's team, all those who have helped us with fundraising and awareness activities there over the past year and also to all the customers who have popped spare change in collecting tins, rewarded bag packing duties or bought our Ollie Teds in store.

SupersonicSonning, May 23rd 2014

Our fundraising efforts are £100 better off thanks to Sonning Common Vauxhall. They have now offered to donate £75 to the Ollie Young Foundation for every new or used car sold, where OYF is mentioned. Thanks so much to Nick and his team!

Re-Marks-able event, May 16th/17th 2014

After a great launch event to M&S Camberley staff earlier on in the month, we returned to spread the word about the OYF to their customers over a gloriously sunny two days, where we presented our merchandise on a stall and helped with the bag packing in the Food Hall, too. Many thanks to the generous customers, the lovely staff and to all who volunteered their time to help, bringing in an impressive £570!

Mark Deakin ran through some picturesque medieval streets to compete in the Volkswagen Prague Marathon, raising a fantastic £1,086! He also managed to shave five minutes off his personal best, crossing the finish line in 4hours, 40 minutes and 42seconds. A huge well done and thank you to you, Mark.

Fayre-ly Fab!, May 5th 2014

The twice-yearly Wokingham Fayres never fail to deliver the feel-good factor and this year's sunny event certainly didn't disappoint. Here are three pics from the day, including Holly, the lucky winner of our dog 'Joey'! So lovely to see friends old and new and to raise an amazing £683 on our stall. As always, thank you, thank you, thank you to the wonderful Woky folk for your amazing support.

A roaring success from the Wokingham Lions, May 5th 2014

Back in January this year, Wokingham Lions hosted a fundraising event at Wokingham Theatre on our behalf, when guests were invited to a special charity performance of Alan Ayckbourn's comedy Round and Round the Garden. At the Wokingham May Fayre we were delighted to be presented with a cheque for £1,000, received from the Wokingham Lions Chairman Andy Slay (right) and Wokingham Town Mayor Cllr Martin Bishop (left), seen here with Sarah Young. Thank you so much lovely Lions!

Cimb Ev'ry Mountain, March 28th 2014

...starting with Mount Kinabalu! Congratulations to Vicky Cox, who climbed this mountain in Borneo and raised £750 (and counting) for us in the process. Vicky calls it "one of the most physically and mentally challenging things I have ever done" and says the thought of Ollie spurred her on for the last, tortuous 100m to the summit. "A friend said "Vicky, think about Ollie", so I stood up and marched the rest of the very vertical way to meet my friends just in time for a photo!" Let's hear it for our mountain climbing queen!

The Texas Hold'em tournament at the Genting Casino in Reading raised £245.23. Many thanks to our friends at Agilent Technologies and all those who attended the event.

A few Mother's Day purchases were made at the OYF evening held at Crabtree and Evelyn at The Oracle in Reading, raising £23 for us and helping to spread OYF awareness to a wider audience. Many thanks to everyone who came along.

Triathlon Triumph, March 20th 2014

Hot on the heels of the Green Park Challenge, Gaele, Georges and Gordon of the trusty Hawthorns Hobblers completed the Green Park Triathlon for us, bringing their team fundraising total to an amazing £1,610. And that wasn't the end of this year's valiant efforts to swell the charity's coffers (see above)!

Brutal 10, March 10th 2014

Heather Mcleish ran the Brutal 10 race for us, which promised to be very hilly, muddy and wet. And it didn't disappoint, as you can see from these 'before' and 'after' photos! Heather is also considering a sponsored walk along the Great Wall of China towards the end of 2015 and would like to know if anyone wishes to join her? Email us if you are interested and we'll put you in touch.

It's Jason again!, March 9th 2014

Our Half Marathon Hero Jason Lewis tackled the Surrey's first Half Marathon, which he summarised as a "fairly simple course with a couple of monster hills half way.

A lot of injuries and dehydration going round. Never seen so many people dropping and or covered in blood!" Despite his own injuries Jason completed the course and, with an incredible £795 in the pot he is now gearing up for the Bracknell Half. Good luck Mr L!

Eaton, March 2014

The Eaton company held various fundraising activities last year for our benefit, raising a fantastic £1,100! A huge thank you from all at the OYF, especially to Lee Fryer (centre) for nominating us and to the fab fundraising committee seen here.

Racing Around Reading, 2nd March 2014

These are just some of the many photos we took while cheering on our runners at the Green Park Challenge (2.8k) and the Reading Half Marathon.

Thank you so much to everyone who ran for Ollie and helped to spread the word about us by wearing their Ollie Blues. If you sponsored or supported one of our runners, then a HUGE thank you to you too. Almost £4k has been raised by these events and the total is still going up! More photos from the day can be found here!

RRR 'R' The Best! 22nd February 2014

The Foundation was given a h-u-g-e boost thanks to the fundraising efforts of the fabulous Reading Road Runners, whose year-long activities have culminated in an incredible £25,000! Here are Tim, Geoff and Sandra presenting the cheque to Sarah Young, accompanied by Darren & Karen and Shona & Nick. It is a fantastic sum and the result of many running events, social evenings and early Saturday morning starts with their car boot sales at Prospect Park. We can't say thank you enough.

Congratulations to Claire Budhan, who completed the Garmin 'Race Your Pace' Half Marathon around Dorney Lake in Berkshire with a personal best of 2hrs 17mins, raising money for two charitable foundations en route, H.E.A.T. and our very own OYF! Claire has received a fantastic £130 for her run so far. Thanks Mrs B!

One-man Half Marathon, 9th February 2014

Jason Lewis was dismayed to learn that the Wokingham Half Marathon had been cancelled due to the floods in the area. But, undeterred, he decided to run it anyway, saying, "I have been sponsored good money to do 13.1 miles on Sunday so I shall be doing 13.1 miles on Sunday from my house!" Despite the absence of co-runners, water stations, supporting crowds or even a medal at the end of the route, he managed to achieve a personal best of 1hour 57 mins, and was very happy with the result. He is now preparing for the Surrey Half Marathon in March and the Bracknell Half Marathon in April, which will complete his trio of fundraising challenges for us, through which he aims to raise £1,000. "Mad??" Says Jason, "Yes... remember it's not for me though, it's for these people The Ollie Young Foundation...
