Welcome Emily!

18th November 2013

Ollie Young Foundation provides £90,000 research grant for 3-year brain tumour research

When the Ollie Young Foundation was launched in the summer of 2012, we all dreamed of the day when our first key goal would be achieved and we would be able to welcome the PhD student who would be conducting vital brain tumour research in Ollie's name. Every merchandise sale, sponsored activity or organised fundraising event took us closer to that goal and as the weeks turned into months for our fledgling charity, we realised that something very special was happening.

Even so, little could we believe our good fortune when, less than eighteen months later, our first £100,000 was achieved and arrangements could be made to turn that dream into a distinct reality. And here we are now, congratulating Emily Pinkstone on her start of her work at the Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence at Portsmouth University! Emily graduated from University College London with an MSc in Clinical Neurology and at Portsmouth, under the guidance of Professor Geoff Pilkington and his team, she will be conducting research into abnormal cellular metabolism in paediatric glioblastoma, glioblastoma being the specific type of brain tumour which ended Ollie's life so cruelly.

Emily is the personification of the truly phenomenal fundraising we have all achieved together and we sincerely hope that everyone who has contributed in any way shares our pride in this milestone. Good luck Emily and the warmest possible welcome from the Ollie Young Foundation, family, friends, fundraisers and supporters alike.
